If three layers simply existed together, that would be a checklist. H3 is different. With additive frameworks, you can use only the parts that fit your needs and ignore the rest. H3 does not work this way, since each layer relies on the others in specific ways. If you remove one, the other two are diminished.

The clearest way to see this is to run each removal in turn.

Without Hand, there is no craft credibility behind any influence the practitioner attempts. A practitioner can still navigate organisations and connect with people, but the room will notice, eventually, that the person who talks most fluently about design cannot produce anything that earns trust.

Without Heart, a practitioner can execute with precision and read the field clearly, but colleagues become obstacles or instruments. They can succeed individually. They cannot build anything that outlasts their personal presence.

Without Head, skill and warmth exist without direction. The technically gifted, personally present designer who cannot read the organisation, cannot position their work, and keeps being surprised by the same dynamics.

Beyond necessity, each layer amplifies the others. Hand makes Head credible: the right to navigate, to question briefs, to hold ground in a room, is earned through demonstrable craft. Claiming it is not enough. Head directs Heart: knowing where you are and where you are going allows you to invest relational energy with intent rather than spreading it thin. Heart enables Hand: people do better work alongside someone they trust, and they let that person do better work too.

Which layer is weakest in you right now is the one limiting everything else. When one layer lags far behind, it tends to set the ceiling: developing the other two rarely raises the result until the lagging one catches up. (Which layer to develop first is a separate question.
